Good to know about Akumal
Akumal is a bay with its own turn-off from Federal Highway 307, between Puerto Aventuras and Tulum. The name is Maya for "place of turtles", which is also why nearly all the lodging here sits on the beach rather than out on the highway.
- Akumal is not a roadside town: you turn off the 307 and the bay is on the ocean side. Give us the hotel or condo name and your driver takes you to the door.
- It has two sides: Akumal town, west of the 307, and the bay, east of it. Same rate to either — tell us which when you book so your driver takes the right entrance.
- At 75–105 min of driving it sits between Puerto Aventuras and Tulum: over an hour of Highway 307 from the terminal, with the corridor traffic in between.

How long does it take from Cancun Airport to Akumal?
Between 75–105 min on Federal Highway 307. The low end assumes light traffic; the top is what it takes leaving at rush hour, or if you are staying on the bay side past the turn-off.
-
Are Akumal town and Akumal bay the same place?
They are two sides of the same turn-off from Highway 307: the town to the west, the bay to the east where the beachfront hotels and condos are. We charge $124 USD per vehicle to either one; all that changes is the entrance your driver takes, so say which when you book.
